My approach to poetry is like my approach to visual art; I want my verse to be traditional yet original, intricately detailed, and vigorously medieval in spirit. I write both religious and humorous poetry. I use rhyme, singable meters, and an archaic diction that suggest the popular verse of the late Middle Ages and early modern period: carols, ballads, folk songs, and hymns. I invite composers to set my words to music; some already have, and have allowed their compositions to be downloaded here.
My first poetry collection, The Wretch on the Gallows Tree, was published in 2024. It includes forty religious poems on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, following the sequence of the liturgical year. I designed the typefaces, ornament, and illustrations used in the book. Its price is $16.
The collection was reviewed in Dappled Things literary magazine.
