ST. THOMAS of CANTERBURY
PRINT by DANIEL MITSUI
St. Thomas à Becket was the archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170. He drew the ire of King Henry II for asserting the rights and privileges of the Catholic Church in England, and was assassinated near the altar of his cathedral.
The scene of his martyrdom is surrounded by a border built of interconnecting units of millefleur and shell ornament taken from my various ink drawings.
The print is about one and a half times larger than the original artwork.
Dimensions: 8" × 11"
